Joplin, Mo. - The MSSU volleyball team picked up their second sweep of the week on Saturday, taking down the Emporia State Hornets. With the win, Southern improves to 9-4 (2-2 MIAA) on the year.
The teams really went back and forth in both the first and second sets, each team going on runs of their own. Southern took the first set by a score of 25-23, and the second set with a 26-24 finish. After winning the first two sets, the momentum carried over for a 25-16 MSSU victory, taking the match 3-0.
Jaryn Benning led the team with 13 kills, picking up 5 digs as well.
Hannah Allick,
Fernanda Canedo, and
Kyla Randall all had a double-double. Allick with 31 assists and 14 digs, Canedo with 18 digs and 12 kills, and Randall with 20 digs and 10 assists.
The volleyball team will play at Pittsburg State for their next contest, taking on the Gorillas Friday, September 29 at 6:00 PM.
