Liberty, Mo. - The Southern volleyball team kicked off the new week with a non-conference contest with the William Jewell Cardinals. In that match, the Lions took all three sets to complete the mid-week sweep and improve to 8-3 (1-1 MIAA).
The teams went back and forth to start the match, but MSSU went on a tear of eight straight points to take a 17-10 lead. They'd go on to take the set 25-19. Continuing from where they left off, the Lions scored the first four points of the second set, leading to a 25-18 victory to go ahead 2-0. The Cardinals attempted a comeback in the third set, but the Lions held strong to take it 25-21.
Hannah Allick reached double digits in both assists (20) and digs (11).
Sydney Unruh led the team with 18 digs, and had 3 service aces in the match.
Amelia Neels finished with 3 block assists and 1 solo block, and had 6 kills on the night.
The team will play again on Friday, September 22 as they return home for the first time since September 2. They'll host #13 Washburn on Friday at 6:00 PM and Emporia State on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
