Jets Force Decisive Game Three

Joplin, Mo. - The 13th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program collected nine hits and scored four runs but was not enough to defeat Newman on Saturday, May 6th at Warren Turner Field, with a decisive game three of the opening round of the MIAA Tournament to decide who advances to the semifinal and championship round.

The Lions (39-13) were led by Henry Kusiak going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, Treghan Parker would be the other Lion to have multiple hits going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Ethan Clark collected an RBI. Cole Gayman struck out five in 3.0 innings with Cale McCallister striking out three in 4.0 innings and Kyle Moore punching out one in 2.0 innings.

Newman (23-29) got on the board first with three runs in the first inning before the Lions responded in the first with a run off a throwing error to cut the lead down to 3-1. The Jets added another run in the third with a sacrifice fly before back-to-back RBI singles by Kusiak and Clark made it a one run game, 4-3.

In the fifth Newman would strike again from a wild pitch with Southern able to get it to within one again in the seventh following a Kusiak RBI single to score Parker for a 5-4 scoreline. The Jets would threaten and ultimately score in the ninth with the Lions able to draw a lead off walk but couldn't score.

Game three will be on Sunday, May 7th at 1:00pm from Warren Turner Field with the winner advancing to Warrensburg, Mo. for the semifinal and championship round of the 2023 MIAA Baseball Tournament.

Single-Season Update
