Joplin, Mo. - The fourth ranked Missouri Southern baseball program got 12 strikeouts in seven innings from
Cole Woods and a
Drew Davis homer to tie it late but fell 5-3 to No. 18 Central Missouri on Friday Apr. 7th at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (28-10, 16-6 MIAA) were led by Woods with his 12 strikeouts (three looking) in seven innings from 105 pitches as Davis went 2-for-4 with a three run homer to lead the team from the batters box.
Neither team was able to get a run across in the first three innings but in the fourth and fifth innings Central Missouri (27-9, 18-4 MIAA) got one run in each to take a 2-0 lead. After a shutout sixth the seventh inning saw four runs scored between the team from two home runs highlighted by a three run home run by Davis for his third of the season to tie it up 3-3 heading to the eighth inning. UCM would score two in the eight to decide the game and make it a 5-3 final scoreline.
The series finale against Central Missouri will be on Saturday Apr. 8th at Warren Turner Field with first pitch slated for 1:00pm.
