Joplin, Mo. - The fourth ranked Missouri Southern baseball program beat No. 18 Central Missouri 3-2 in the weekend series finale at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (29-10, 17-6 MIAA) were led by
Matt Miller going 2-for-4 with two home runs for three RBIs,
Cole Gayman won his fourth game of the season with seven strikeouts in six innings and
Kyle Moore collected his third save of the season with two strikeouts in three shutout innings.
Neither team scored a run until the third inning as a Central Missouri (27-10, 18-5 MIAA) sacrifice fly gave the Mules a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning Miller would hit a two run homer to right field scoring
Drew Davis to put the Lions ahead 2-1.
Miller would make sure that his last at-bat was not a fluke and hit his 15th home run of the season to right field in what was also hit 200th career hit and 50th career homer to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Central Missouri would have a comeback attempt but fall short with Moore closing the door in the final three innings to pave the way for a 3-2 win in the series finale against the Mules.
Up next for the Lions will be a midweek home conference game against Rogers State on Tuesday Apr. 11th at 6:00pm from Warren Turner Field.
