St. Joseph, Mo. - The 16th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program claimed their 10th conference series of the season beating Missouri Western 5-3 at the Griffon Baseball Field on Saturday, Apr. 29th.
The Lions (38-11, 25-7 MIAA) were led by
Cole Gayman with 7.0 innings and four strikeouts in his sixth win of the season.Â
Laif Hultine pitched the final 2.0 innings and struck out two to pick up his sixth save of the season.
Will Doherty and
Treghan Parker went 2-or-4 from the plate as Doherty finished with a team-high two RBIs.
Southern made the most of the third inning scoring four runs to break the deadlock thanks to a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by
Ethan Clark, a RBI groundout by
Matt Miller and a two RBI single through the right side by Doherty. Missouri Western (14-32, 10-22 MIAA) responded in the top half of the inning with a two run home run to make it a 4-2 lead for the Lions.
In the sixth inning Southern scored again after a
Chayton Beck triple to right field allowed Doherty to reach home to cruise into a 5-3 road win.
Game three and the regular season finale against the Griffons is set for a 12:00pm start time on Sunday, Apr. 30th from the Griffon Baseball Field.
