St. Joseph, Mo. - The 16th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program hit three home runs in a loss to Missouri Western 15-4 at the Griffon Baseball Field on Sunday, Apr. 30th but will host a first round series of the MIAA Tournament after finishing the season second in the conference.
The Lions (38-12, 25-8 MIAA) were led by
Matt Miller going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two home runs,
Treghan Parker also hit a home run and
Ethan Clark went 2-for-3 with a run scored.Â
Missouri Western (15-32, 11-22 MIAA) got on the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning before solo home runs by Parker and Miller in the third and fourth innings gave the Lions a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Griffons scored seven to take the lead with the Lions scoring again in the sixth from a Miller two run home run his 22nd of the season.
Southern will host a best-of-three series against the Newman Jets beginning on Friday, May 5th at 1:00pm from Warren Turner Field. For the first round series the Lions and Jets are scheduled for games on Friday and Saturday with an if necessary game on Sunday with all games set for a 1:00pm first pitch. The winner of the first round series will progress to the final four site hosted by Central Missouri beginning on Thursday, May 11th.
