Hays, Kan. - The fourth ranked Missouri Southern baseball program claimed their seventh MIAA series with a 17-8 win over Fort Hays State on Saturday Apr. 1st at Larks Park.
The Lions (27-7, 16-3 MIAA) were led by
Treghan Parker going 3-for-6 with seven RBIs, two runs scored and a grand slam homer.
Nate Mieszkowski scored four times and both of his hits were homers as seven Lions had two or more hits and five had two or more RBIs in the game.
Kyle Moore picked up the win with 4.2 innings of relief while striking out six and
Cale McCallister closing out the game with a shutout ninth.
In the first inning Fort Hays State (13-22, 4-15 MIAA) scored twice and a sacrifice fly in the second inning gave the Tigers an early 3-0 lead.
Ethan Clark singled through the left side that allowed
Garrett Rice and Mieszkowski to score for the first runs of the game for the Lions but three runs in the bottom half by Fort Hays State made it a 6-2 deficit.Â
The Tigers would score two more in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead but wouldn't be able to add any more runs the rest of the game. Southern got the scoring started in the fifth with a Mieszkowski solo homer as a two RBI single by Parker and a
Chayton Beck RBI double to left center made it 8-6.Â
Southern gained full control of the game in the sixth inning with a
Henry Kusiak single up the middle and a Parker grand slam gave the Lions an 11-8 lead. In the seventh inning a wild pitch allowed
Drew Davis to score and Mieszkowski's 12th homer of the season made made it a 13-8 game,
Matt Miller collected his 48th career and 13th homer of the season in the eighth with three runs scored in the ninth to give the Lions a 17-8 victory.
Game three in the series against Fort Hays State is set for Sunday Apr. 2nd from Larks Park with the Lions looking to claim their third conference sweep of the season.Â
