Hays, Kan. - The fourth ranked Missouri Southern baseball program dropped the series finale against Fort Hays State but claimed the seventh conference series of the season on Sunday Apr. 2nd from Larks Park.
The Lions (27-8, 16-4 MIAA) were led by
Tyler Ferguson going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs,
Matt Miller went 3-for-4 with an RBI and
Drew Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Neither team would score in the first inning before three runs by Fort Hays State (14-22, 5-15 MIAA) in the second inning gave the hosts a 3-0 lead. Southern responded with a Ferguson single to left field scoring Davis but three more runs by the Tigers made it a 6-1 deficit.
In the fifth inning Ferguson hit his sixth homer of the season and a Miller single through the right side scored
Henry Kusiak to make it 6-4. Fort Hays State scored one run in the bottom half of the fifth to achieve the 7-4 final score as neither team was able to score in the final four innings.
Up next for the Lions will be a non-conference midweek neutral site game against Missouri Western on Tuesday Apr. 4th in Kansas City, Mo. at the MLB Urban Youth Academy with first pitch set for 12:00pm.
