Lions Smash Eight Homers, Parker Ties School Record In 13-3 Win Over Tigers

Hays, Kan. - The fourth ranked Missouri Southern baseball program utilized a windy day at Larks Park in a 13-3 win over Fort Hays State on Friday Mar. 31st with eight homers.

The Lions (26-7, 15-3 MIAA) were led by Treghan Parker going 3-for-5 with three home runs with three RBIs and runs scored, Henry Kusiak went 5-for-6 with two home runs for four RBIs and scored three times. Drew Davis went 3-for-5 as Nate Mieszkowski, Garrett Rice and Ethan Clark had two hits each. Cole Woods picked up his seventh win of the season with seven innings and six strikeouts as Kyle Moore and Trent Harris pitched the last two frames with Moore coming away with three strikeouts.

Southern got the scoring started early with a two run homer by Kusiak in the first and a Parker solo shot in the second to give the team a 3-0 lead. Fort Hays State (13-21, 4-14 MIAA) got on the board in the bottom half of the second with a two run homer making it a 3-2 game. 

In the third Ethan Clark hit a two run homer his second on the season and Chayton Beck had a solo shot for his seventh homer of the season, giving the Lions a 6-2 lead. Neither team scored again until the seventh inning as a Parker solo homer ro right field and a Tigers solo homer made it 7-3 in favor of the Lions. 

Mieszkowski got the scoring started again in the eighth with a two run shot to left center as a Kusiak solo shot to left center made it 10-3 and was the 10th homer of the season for both players. In the ninth the Lions would add to the lead with Parker for the third time in the game hitting a solo shot for his ninth homer of the season, Tyler Ferguson doubled to left center allowing Davis to score and a Kusiak single through the right side scored Mieszkowski for the final score of 13-3. 

Game two of the series against Fort Hays State will be played on Saturday Apr. 1st from Farks Park with first pitch set for 1:00pm.

Team - Tied a program record with eight home runs that was set on Apr. 10th, 2021 at Warren Turner Field against Newman in a 29-11 win.

Treghan Parker - Tied a program record with three home runs set by Mark Baker at Central State (Central Oklahoma) on Feb. 28th, 1991 in a 17-5 win and was originally tied by Matt Miller at Warren Turner Field against Rogers State on Mar. 29th, 2022 in a 25-2 win.

Cole Woods - Became the ninth pitcher in program history to have 200 or more career strikeouts and moved into seventh all-time with 204 following his performance today passing Brett Abell, 2011-13 and Chuck Pittman, 1989-92.
