Claremore, Okla. - The seventh ranked Missouri Southern baseball program claimed the sixth MIAA series of the season beating Rogers State 17-6 on Tuesday Mar. 28th from the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Lions (24-7, 14-3 MIAA) were led by
Ethan Clark and
Garrett Rice with four RBIs,
Henry Kusiak went 4-for-5 finishing a triple short of the cycle with three RBIs and scoring three times.
Tyler Ferguson went 3-for-4 with a home,
Chayton Beck went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and drew two walks.
Steen Lane won his third game of the season with five innings and four strikeouts,
Trent Harris threw 1.1 innings with a strikeout,
Kyle Moore pitched 0.2 innings and
Kyle Kaempf threw the last two innings.
Southern got a a run in the first inning with a Clark sacrifice fly to center field allowing
Nate Mieszkowski to score, Rogers State (19-11, 7-10 MIAA) would get one back in the first and score twice in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Both teams were kept off the score board again until the fifth as the Lions scored four runs with a Kusiak homer to right field giving the Lions a 5-3 lead.
In the sixth inning a Ferguson homer to right field, Kusiak single to right center scored two and an error by the Hillcats catcher allowed Rice to score from third giving the Lions a 9-3 lead. RSU scored two in the seventh but four runs in the eight and ninth innings by the Lions were more than enough to secure a 17-6 win to claim the midweek series against the Hillcats.
The Lions will be in action tomorrow Wednesday, Mar. 29th against Southwestern Oklahoma State with first pitch from Warren Turner field set for 2:00pm for a non-conference midweek game.
