Joplin, Mo. - The seventh ranked Missouri Southern baseball program defeated Emporia State 13-0 in a run rule seven inning MIAA game to begin the weekend at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (21-7, 11-3 MIAA) were led by
Cole Woods and
Cale McCallister combining for 12 strikeouts and a shutout of the Hornets (11-17, 6-8Â MIAA). Woods picked up his fifth win of the season with six strikeouts in five innings and McCallister throwing the last two innings with six strikeouts.
Henry Kusiak went 2-for-2 with his 30th career home run and three RBIs to lead the team offensively with
Matt Miller going 2-for-3 with three runs scored, his 46th career home run and two RBIs.
Treghan Parker had three RBIs and Nate Mieszkowksi had two RBIs as everyone in the lineup got a hit today.
Southern got the scoring started in the second inning thanks to a sharply hit line drive homer down the right field line to begin a four run inning. In the third inning a Mieszkowski single through the right side scored Miller to make it an early 5-0 lead for the Lions. The fifth inning saw Southern score six runs with a bases clearing double by
Treghan Parker capping off the scoring in the inning. Kusiak would put the exclemation mark on the game with a two run homer ro right field that gave the final scoreline of 13-0.
Game two in the series against Emporia State is set for 1:00pm on Saturday Mar. 25th at Warren Turner Field.Â
