Joplin, Mo. - The seventh ranked Missouri Southern baseball program scored 13 runs again against Emporia State to claim the conference series against the Hornets at Warren Turner Field on Saturday Mar. 25th.
The Lions (22-7, 12-3 MIAA) were led by
Henry Kusiak going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored with a homer,
Matt Miller went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and
Chayton Beck had a home run and scored twice.
Cole Gayman picked up his fourth win of the season with a complete game six strikeout game from 112 pitches.
Southern got the scoring started in the first inning with
Will Doherty collecting an RBI and a Miller triple to center field scoring two more for the early 3-0 lead over Emporia State (11-18, 6-9 MIAA). Beck would homer in the second inning for his sixth of the season and a Miller double down the right field line in the third inning made it 5-0 for the Lions.
In the fourth inning
Nate Mieszkowski doubled home Beck, Kusiak hit his seventh home run of the season and a
Drew Davis bases clearing double to right center made it 11-0 in favor of Southern.
Ethan Clark and Doherty had RBI hits in the sixth and a solo homer by the Hornets in the seventh made the score 13-1 as the Lions claimed their fifth MIAA conference series and scored double-digit runs in 14 games.
The final game of the series against Emporia State is set for 1:00pm on Sunday from Warren Turner Field.
