Lions To Battle Warriors

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball program is set to host Winona State in a double-header tomorrow Mar. 19th from the Pat Lipira Softball Complex with first pitch set for 1:00/3:00pm approximately.

The Lions (17-6) as a team are averaging 8.7 hits and 6.7 runs per game while the pitching staff has 3.29 ERA with 5.5 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .270. Individually for the Lions,  Leighton Withers is hitting .465 with 16 runs scored, 33 hits, five doubles, eight home runs and 31 RBIs while slugging .901 with a .571 on-base percentage. Emily Perry is hitting .382 with 20 runs scored, 26 hits, six doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs while slugging .559 with a .468 on-base percentage. Kate Thurman is hitting .304 with six runs scored, 14 hits, four doubles, one home run and 15 RBIs while slugging .457 with a .439 on-base percentage. Josie Tofpi is hitting .300 with 16 runs scored, 18 hits, two doubles, four home runs and 11 RBIs while slugging .533. Yazmin Vargas leads the team with 15 stolen bases while hitting .500 with 19 runs scored, 23 hits, one home run and six RBIs while slugging .609 with a .589 on-base percentage.

In the circle Avery Tallman is 10-2 with a 2.02 ERA in 14 appearances, 11 starts for 62.1 innings while striking out 37 and walking only 15 as opponents hit .245 against her. Bailey Lacy is 3-0 with a 3.47 ERA in 13 appearances, two starts for 34.1 innings while striking out 31 and opponents hitting .264 against her. Natalie Bates is 3-2 with a 4.04 ERA in 10 appearances, six starts for 34.2 innings while striking out 38 and walking only 13. Kara Amos has appeared in 11 games with four starts for 22.0 innings while striking out 20 and opponents hitting .291 against her.

Winona State (16-7) went 1-1 against Southern last season and made it to the Central Regional behind the arm of Liz Pautz who graduated after posting a 27-6 record in 37 appearances, 33 starts for 214.0 innings, striking out 361 with only 52 walks and opponents hitting .192 against her. This season the Warriors average 6.9 hits and 4.3 runs per game while the pitching staff has a 2.31 ERA with 3.8 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .233. Individually for the Warriors,  Abbie Hlas is hitting .363 with 16 runs scored, 29 hits, nine doubles and 14 RBIs while slugging .500 with a .416 on-base percentage. Carly Engelhardt is hitting .342 with 12 runs scored, 25 hits, two doubles, three home runs and 19 RBIs while slugging .548 with a .435 on-base percentage. Marissa Mullen is hitting .328 with six runs, 20 hits, two doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs while slugging .459 with a .453 on-base percentage. Savannah Serdynski is hitting .308 with 11 runs scored, 16 hits, two doubles and six RBIs. 

In the circle Abby Smith is 8-2 with a 1.37 ERA in 11 appearances, eight starts for 66.1 innings while striking out 32 and walking only 14 as opponents hit .224 against her. Hlas is 7-3 with a 2.10 ERA in 11 starts, nine complete games for 66.2 innings while striking out 42 and walking 20 as opponents hit .209 against her. Skyler Caimes is 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA in four appearances, three starts for 18.0 innings with 12 strikeouts and only two walks while opponents hit .325 against her.
