Chicago, Ill – The Missouri Southern track and field programs competed at the Lewis Invitational in Chicago, Illinois and came away with 11 event wins and had 18 NCAA Qualifying Marks.
Throws
- For the men, Peyton Barton (20.67m), Cedric Pearson (17.14m) and Jordan Garr (17.12m) finished first, third and fourth in the weight throw with Barton having an NCAA Qualifying Mark. In the shot put, Jordan Garr (17.21m) and Cedric Pearson (16.38m) placed second and fourth with both having an NCAA Qualifying Mark.
- For the women, Mallory Huber (18.28m) and Samarie Bonds (16.97m) finished first and second in the weight throw with Huber having an NCAA Qualifying Mark.
Jumps
- For the men, Brendan Jewell (2.06m) and Luke Brumit (2.03m) finished second and third in the high jump with both having NCAA Qualifying Marks. Brumit also hit a personal record with today's mark. In the long jump, Jon Watts (7.04m), Taris Jackson (6.84m) and Peyton McBride (6.75m) finished first, fifth and sixth respectively. Taris Jackson (14.93m) and Peyton McBride (14.66m) finished first and second in the triple jump with both receiving an NCAA Qualifying Mark and McBride recording a personal record.
- For the women, Rylee Darnell finished first in the high jump with a personal record of 1.60m. In the long jump, Precious Olatunji finished in third with a mark of 5.44m. Jennifer Okeke finished in sixth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.16m.
Pole Vault
- For the men, Bryan Candrl reach a mark of 4.47m in the event to finish fourth.
Sprints
- For the women, Kiara Smith (7.69) and Chardae Overstreet (7.99) finished second and eighth in the women's 60m dash prelims. In the finals, Smith (7.63) and Overstreet (7.97) placed third and fifth with Smith having an NCAA Qualifying time. Overstreet (25.24) and Precious Olatunji (26.95) placed fourth and seventeenth in the 200m dash. In the 400m dash, LaNea Wallace placed fourth with a personal record of 56.34.
- For the men, Malachi Pipkin (22.14), Kyzer Gann-Vega (23.57) and JaDarius Pigg (23.61) placed fourth, twenty-sixth and twenty-eighth in the 200m dash. In the 400m dash, Kzyer Gann-Vega placed sixteenth with a time of 51.88.
Hurdles
- For the men, Maksym Andurukhiv (8.14), JaDarius Pigg (8.22) and Malachi Pipkin (8.26) placed first, second and third in the finals of the 60m hurdles. Both Andurukhiv and Pigg had an NCAA Qualifying time. With all three individuals beating their times from the prelims; Andurukhiv (8.19), Pipkin (8.32), and Pigg (8.33).
- For the women, Precious Olatunji placed first in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 8.85 for an NCAA Qualifying time. In the finals, Olatunji placed second with a time of 8.87.
Distance
- For the women, Kelie Henderson (2:24.65) placed eighth in the 800m run. In the mile run, Kayanna Gaines (5:06.30) and Kelie Henderson (5:17.49) finished eighth and tenth. Lilah Genel won the 3000m race with a time of 9:56.04 while Riley Vickrey (10:23.56) and Jayna Gunter (10:30.18) finished seventh and tenth. Genel had an NCAA Qualifying time for the 3000m race as well.
Relays
The Lions will return to competition next Friday and Saturday, February 10
th and 11
th, at the Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas.
