Lions Set For MIAA/GAC Crossover

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball program is set for its third straight weekend of tournament games, this time making the trip to Oklahoma for the MIAA/GAC Crossover hosted by Central Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene.

Southern will play Arkansas Tech at 10:30am and East Central at 1:00pm from Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Okla. on Friday. Saturday will see the Lions play Southeastern Oklahoma at 10:00am and Southern Nazarene at 3:00pm from Tere Webber Field in Bethany, Okla. Sunday will see the Lions play #16 Southern Arkansas in Yukon, Okla. at Yukon High School with first pitch set for 1:00pm to end the weekend.

The Lions (6-3) are hitting .310 as a team with 6.6 runs and 9.3 hits per game and as a pitching staff has a 4.41 ERA with 5.6 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .266. Yazmin Vargas leads the team with a .455 average, 12 runs scored with 10 hits, four walks drawn while slugging .682 and having a .556 on base percentage for a 1.238 OPS. Leighton Withers is hitting .438 ith a team-high 14 hits, three home runs, 13 RBIs and is slugging .813 with an on base percentage of .538 for a 1.351 OPS. Emily Perry is hitting .381 with eight hits, two doubles and a home run to slug .619 and have a .480 on base percentage for a 1.099 OPS. Kate Thurman and Marybeth Dyson are hitting .333 with Ashlynn Williams rounding out the normal starters hitting above .300. In the circle, Avery Tallman is 5-1 with a 1.16 ERA, .90 WHIP with two complete games in 31.0 innings of work, 22 strikeouts to six walks and opponents hitting .193 against her. Bailey Lacy and Kara Amos have both featured in five games with Lacy throwing in 13.2 innings and striking out 10 with Amos pitching in 8.0 innings so far this season. Natalie Bates has pitched in 10.2 innings in three appearance with 11 strikeouts issued. 

Arkansas Tech (6-4) is hitting .239 as a team with 3.0 runs and 5.8 hits per game and as a pitching staff has a 2.19 ERA with 3.9 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .206.Brooke Prewitt is hitting .393 with 11 hits, three doubles, three triples a home run, five RBIs and is slugging .821 with an .485 on base percentage for a 1.306 OPS. Makenzie Goins is hitting .310 with nine hits, two home runs, three RBIs while slugging .552. Kaylyn Aguirre rounds out the Golden Suns regular starters hitting above .300 with a .308 average from eight hits. In the circle, Bailey Buffington is 4-1 with no eared runs from 34.2 innings of work with four complete games, three shutouts with 18 strikeouts and three walks while opponents are hitting .137 against her. Bradi Basler is 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 21.1 innings of work, 16 strikeouts to six walks and opponents are hitting .225 against her. Kaila Cartwright is the most used option out of the bullpen with four appearances over, three in relief for a 6.77 ERA in 10.1 innings of work, five strikeouts to six walks and opponents hitting .333 against her.

East Central (0-4) is hitting .139 as a team with 1.5 runs and 3.5 hits per game and as a pitching staff has a 3.84 ERA with 5.3 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .274. Gabi Quintanilla is hitting .600 with six hits and is slugging .700 with an on base percentage of .667 for a 1.367 OPS. None of the other regular starters for the Tigers are hitting above .200. In the circle, Taryn O'Brien is 0-2 in two starts with a 3.23 ERA and two complete games for 13.0 innings of work, seven strikeouts to nine walks and opponents hitting .220 against her. Taia Harris is the other starter with a 0-1 record and a 5.83 ERA after 6.0 innings of work with four strikeouts to six walks and opponents hitting .440 against her.

Southeastern Oklahoma (3-6) is hitting .202 as a team with 2.4 runs and 4.7 hits per game and as a pitching staff has a 5.77 ERA with 3.9 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .296. None of the regular starters hit above .250 with India McMurray sitting at .235 the highest. Iliana Oliverares and Makayla Geeslin are hitting .500 but have not played in more than half of the games for the Savage Storm this season. Reese Taylor is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in five appearance and has two complete games for 20.0 innings of work with nine strikeouts to eight walks and opponents hitting .313 against her. Amberlyn Walsworth has a 1-2 record with a 6.29 ERA in five appearances and has two complete games for 24.1 innings of work with 16 strikeouts to eight walks and opponents hitting .317 against her.

Southern Nazarene (4-4) is hitting .274 as a team with 4.4 runs and 7.4 hits per game and as a pitching staff has a 3.83 ERA with 6.0 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .248. Hailey Evans is hitting .480 with 12 hits and nine RBIs while slugging .640 and has an on base percentage of .552 for a 1.192 OPS. Kennedy Sherer is the other hitter above .300 at .318 with seven hits so far. In the circle, Olivia Hernandez is 1-1 with four appearances for a 1.50 ERA in 18.2 innings of work, 27 strikeouts to 16 walks and opponents are hitting .131 against her. Maddie Southerland has featured in five game with a 1-1 record for a 4.20 ERA in 13.1 innings of work, eight strikeouts to nine walks and opponents hitting .273 against her.

#16 Southern Arkansas (9-0) is hitting .360 as a team with 7.0 runs and 9.6 hits per game and as a pitching staff has a 1.72 ERA with 6.3 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .257. Alyssa Miller is hitting .750 with 18 hits, eight runs scored, two triples, 10 RBIs, slugging 1.083 with a .760 on base percentage for an 1.843 OPS. Gracie King is hitting .522 with two home runs, 11 RBIs to lead the team and is slugging .913. Regan Dillon (.320) and Jaxyn Dyson (.292) have also hit two home runs this season. In the circle, Sydney Ward is 5-0 with a 0.95 ERA, .92 WHIP with three complete games for 29.1 innings of work, 26 strikeouts to three walks and opponents are hitting .218 against her. Morgan McAlexander is the other starter with a 2.29 ERA, 1.20 WHIP with one complete game for 18.1 innings of work, 17 strikeouts to five walks and opponents are hitting .262 against her. Baylie Thornhill is the go-to option out of the bullpen with a 2.47 ERA in four appearances with a 2-0 record, one save, 11.1 innings of work, 13 strikeouts to no walks and opponents hitting .311 against her.
