Riddle Runs Sub Four Minute Mile, Lions Complete Gorilla Classic

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern track and field program finished up the two-day Gorilla Classic meet today inside the Robert W. Plaster Center as Ryan Riddle became the first Lion to run a sub four-minute mile and the programs combined to have 13 individuals and two relays with NCAA Qualifying marks along with two records being set and two event wins.

Throws
  • For the men, Peyton Barton won the weight throw with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 20.80m and Connor Boyd finished second with an NCAA Qualifying mark and personal best mark of 20.33m. Jordan Garr competed in the weight throw as well, finishing tenth with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 18.10m. In the shot put, Garr finished seventh with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 17.25m and Cedric Pearson finished eighth with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 16.95m.
  • For the women, Mallory Huber finished second with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 18.41m and Samariae Bonds finished fourth with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 17.43m. In the shot put Bonds finished fourth with a mark of 13.57m.
 
Jumps
  • For the men, Peyton McBride finished third in the triple jump with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 14.76m. In the long jump, Jon Watts finished ninth with a mark of 7.01m and McBride finished 17th with a mark of 6.68m. Luke Brumit finished 11th in the high jump with a mark of 2.02m.
  • For the women, Rylee Darnell finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m. Precious Olatunji finished 26thin the long jump with a mark of 5.24m.
 
Pole Vault
  • For the women, Holly Robinson finished 12th with a mark of 3.63m and Makenzie Moring and Abby Hobbs finished tied for 14th with a mark of 3.48m in the pole vault invite. Emma Hobbs finished 12th in the pole vault open with a mark of 3.23m.
 
Sprints
  • For the men, Malachi Pipkin finished 18th in the 60m dash qualifying event with a time of 6.97 and in the 200m dash finished 29th with a time of 22.00.
  • For the women, Kiara Smith won the 200m dash with a personal best and NCAA Qualifying time of 24.59. ChardaeOverstreet finished 12th in the event with a time of 25.06. In the 400m dash, Overstreet finished second with an NCAA Qualifying time of 55.96. and LaNae Wallace finished third with an NCAA Qualifying time of 56.37. Smith finished fifth in both the 60m dash prelims and finals with an NCAA Qualifying time of 7.64 in the prelims and 7.63 in the finals.
 
Hurdles
  • For the men, Malachi Pipkin won the 60m hurdles qualifying event with an NCAA Qualifying time of 18.14, which ties for the second fastest time in program history, before finishing fifth in the prelims with a program tying time of 8.07. and finished seventh in the finals with a time of 8.15. All three times are an NCAA Qualifying time. JaDariusPigg finished fourth in the qualifying event with a time of 8.32 and in the prelims finished 16th with a time of 8.29. Maksym Andurukhiv also competed in the 60m hurdles prelims and finished 13th with a time of 8.26.
  • For the women, Kiara Smith won the 60m hurdles final and prelims with NCAA Qualifying times of 8.32 and 8.38. which are second and third fastest times in program history. Cornesia Calhoun-White and Precious Olatunji finished 11th and 12th in the 60m hurdles prelims with NCAA Qualifying times of 8.80 and 8.85. Mya Ferguson finished 17th in the 60m hurdles qualifier with a time of 9.32.
 
Distance
  • For the men, Ryan Riddle set a program record, facility record, meet record and ran the second fastest time in Division II this season with an NCAA Qualifying time of 3:59.25. Riddle become the first Lion to run an under four-minute mile in program history. Riley Simpson finished 14th in the mile run with a time of 4:11.23, Gabe McClain finished 50th with a time of 4:21.61. and Zachary Finley was 71st with a time of 4:28.80. In the 800m run, Kelton Sorrell finished 17th with a time of 1:53.82. In the 600yd run, Jacob Breedlove finished 18th with a time of 1:15.18, and Simon Siebert finished 23rd with a time of 1:15.98. In the 5000m run, Jaden Deaton finished 18th with a time of 14:56.66. In the 3000m run, Geordan Patrylak finished 26th with a time of 8:42.02 as Finley finished in 35th with a time of 8:47.42.
  • For the women, Kelie Henderson finished second in the 3000m run with a time of 9:57.56 which is the seventh fastest time in program history and a personal best time. Riley Vickrey finished 12th with a time of 10:20.55. LilahGenel finished seventh in the 5000m run with a time of 17:25.40 which is the tenth fastest time in program history, while Jayna Gunter finished 28th with a time of 18:13.31. In the mile run, Kayanna Gaines finished 17th with a time of 5:06.28.
