Cleveland, Miss. - The Missouri Southern baseball program split today against Delta State in a double header against the Statesmen at Ferriss Field, taking game one 5-4 before falling 3-2 in seven innings in game two.
The Lions (6-2) got five innings from
Trent Harris and four strikeouts for his first win of the season and
Kyle Moore deleviered a four inning save for the first in his career while also striking out four in game one.
Matt Miller and
Ethan Clark collected two RBIs each with Clark going 2-for-3 in the game.Â
Southern got the scoring started in the first game in the third inning with a Miller single down the right field line to score
Chayton Beck and Clark for the early 2-0 lead. Delta State (3-3) got a run back in the bottom half of the third but the Lions responded with two more runs in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. In the bottom half of the fourth the Statesmen scored twice and marked the last of the scoring until the ninth when both teams socred once as a Clark single to center field scored
Tyler Ferguson to prove to be th edifference.
In game two
Owen Schneider got the start and struck out six in three innings as
Laif Hultine pitched an inning and
Kyle Kaempf picking up two strikeouts in as many innings.
Matt Miller would hit his third home run of the season and along with
Ryan Doran went 2-for-3 in the game.Â
Miller's homer in the third inning made it a 2-0 game before the bottom half with Delta State getting one run across. In the fourth the Statesmen were able to score two more runs to take the lead and win 3-2.Â
Up next for the Lions will be East Central on Tuesday from Warren Turner field with first pitch set for 2:00pm and following the matchup with ECU the Lions will host a six team crossover from the 17th - 19th.
