Cleveland, Miss. - The Missouri Southern baseball program suffered their first loss of the season 12-6 to begin a three game series against Delta State tonight at Ferriss Field.
The Lions (5-1) were led by
Henry Kusiak and
Will Doherty with two RBIs each while
Garrett Rice,
Nate Mieszkowski and
Tyler Ferguson picked up two hits each.
Cole Woods struck out three in 3.1 innings with
Kyle Moore picking up two strikeouts in one shutout inning of relief.
Delta State (2-2) was led by Brendan McCauley and Taylor Woodcock with three RBIs each while Harrison Haley started and made it 3.0 before handing off to Logan Cromer who picked up the win after two innings of relief.
Kusiak got the scoring started for the Lions in the second with a solo home run his second of the season before collecting another RBI this time in the third and a Doherty double to left center scored Rice and Kusiak for an early 4-1 lead. In the fourth Mieszkowski singled home
Ryan Doran and a groundout later on in the inning allowed
Chayton Beck to score for the 6-1 Lion lead. Delta State got two runs back in the bottom half of the fourth before going for seven more runs in the fifth that paved the way ultimately for a 12-6 final score.
The Lions and Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow with a double header beginning at 1:00pm from Ferriss Field in Cleveland, Miss.
