Lions Open Indoor Season at Crimson & Gold Invitational

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern track & field teams competed at the Crimson & Gold Invitational on Saturday to open their indoor season. Peyton Barton and Peyton McBride brought home first place finishes, and 12 Southern athletes recorded NCAA qualifying marks. The team will be off until January 13 when they compete in both the Graduate Classic in Nebraska and at Kansas State University. 

60m Hurdles
  • Malachi Pipkin and JaDarius Pigg both hit NCAA qualifying marks. Pipkin placed 8th with a time of 8.07 and Pigg placed 15th at 8.17. Maksym Andurukhiv finished with a time of 8.32, good for 25th place.
  • Precious Olatunji and Ashyiria Savage also recorded times under the NCAA qualifying mark. They went back-to-back in the placings, Olatunji took 6th with a time of 8.70 and Savage placed 7th at 8.80. Olatunji is already in MSSU's top-10 for the 60m, but Savage's time puts her at 7th.  
60m Dash 300m Dash
  • Matthew Haddock was the first Lion to finish the race, placing 16th with a time of 35.06. In 21st was Kyzer Gann-Vega at 35.41, and Cole Barker finished at 36.78 which was good for 37th. 
  • Chardae Overstreet took 5th overall, running the race in 39.44 which puts her second on the MSSU top-10 list. 
600 Yard Dash 800m Run
  • Miguel Solano ran the race in 1:55.29, good for 14th overall. 
Mile Run
  • Evan Matlock finished the race in 4:36.33, placing him 46th overall. 
5000m Run High Jump
  • Rylee Darnell took 13th, clearing 1.53m on her third attempt. Claire Cole placed 15th, clearing 1.48m. 
  • Brendan Jewell placed 7th overall, clearing 2.03m which was the NCAA qualifying mark. Luke Brumit finished a couple spots back at 9th, jumping 2.00m. 
Long Jump Pole Vault Shot Put
  • Kirsten Womack and Briar Gillum took 9th and 10th respectively, throwing 13.15m and 13.12m. 
  • Cedric Pearson placed 2nd with a personal best and NCAA qualifying mark of 17.90m, placing him fourth in the MSSU top-10. Gabe Ford also threw an NCAA qualifying mark of 16.68m, good for 6th place. 
Triple Jump
  • Peyton McBride set a personal best and hit an NCAA qualifying mark with a 15.33m jump, good for 1st place. Devin Greene placed 8th with a jump of 13.89m.
