Warrensburg, Mo. - The Missouri Southern volleyball team played their first match of the week Tuesday evening, taking on the Central Missouri Jennies who received votes in the latest national poll. Currently, UCM is the only undefeated team in conference play. They continued that streak, defeating MSSU 3-0 Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Lions move to 10-6 (3-4 MIAA) on the season.
After scoring the first point of the match, the Lions battled back and forth with the Jennies in the first set, but it was the Jennies that came out on top, 25-20. UCM went on several runs in the second set, taking a 2-0 set lead with a 25-14 second set victory. Despite a tough push in the third set, Southern fell 25-22 which gave Central Missouri the match.Â
Amelia Neels led the team with 10 kills on an attack percentage of .389. In the assists column,
Hannah Allick led the Lions with 27 in the match.
Sydney Unruh (13) and
Tori Hamilton (10) each recorded double digits in the digs category.Â
Returning home for their next competition, the Lions will host the Newman Jets. They were part of the Southern Invite at the beginning of the year, but the teams didn't face each other. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday, October 6.Â
