Joplin, Mo. - The Women's Soccer team hosted the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney Sunday, October 22, at Hal Bodon Field for Senior Day 2023.
Six seniors were celebrated prior to kickoff. Those seniors were
Lilly Doneghue,
Angel Chase,
Jori Hays,
Lariah Boone,
Maya Greenquist and
Banner Williams.
Senior
Banner Williams was the first Lion to take a shot on goal, but was saved by the goalkeeper in the 18th minute.
Dallie Hill put a shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the Loper goalie saved that as well.
The Lions defense held strong, not allowing any first half Loper goals and keeping things tied at the half, 0-0.
After an early second-half goal from the Lopers,
Kennedy Williams tied the game at 1-1 with a solo goal in the 73rd minute.
The Lopers followed Williams' goal with another of their own, to which the Lions could not match, ending the game at 2-1 in favor of Nebraska-Kearney
The loss drops MSSU to 0-14-2 (0-8-1 MIAA) on the season. The Lions will compete in their final home match of the season on Friday, October 27th at 6:00 PM against Northwest Missouri at Hal Bodon Field.
