Topeka, Kan. - The Missouri Southern soccer team hit the road again Friday afternoon, taking on the #23 nationally ranked Washburn Ichabods. In the MIAA standings, Washburn ranks first at 11-1-1 (5-0-1 MIAA) following Friday's match.

Coming out firing, the Ichabods had three shots on goal in just over 10 minutes of play, with Bella Smith making saves on all three.

Jori Hays attempted to put the Lions ahead with a shot, but the result was off to the right. Washburn broke the scoreless tie in the 18th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.

Both defenses played a solid remainder of the half, as neither team was able to get a shot off.

Another shot was taken by MSSU in the 60th minute, this one coming from Banner Williams that missed high right.

The Ichabods had another shot on goal saved by Bella Smith, but another attempt a little later found the back of the net for a 2-0 Washburn lead, and what would be the final score of the game. Bella Smith would end the match with 9 saves.

The loss drops MSSU to 0-11-2 (0-5-1 MIAA) on the season. They travel to Emporia, Kansas next, taking on the Emporia State Hornets on Sunday, October 15 at 2:00 PM.
