St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer program ended the third week of the regular season at Missouri Western losing 2-0 this afternoon at Spratt Memorial Stadium.
The Lions (0-5) were led by
Lilly Doneghue with seven saves in her first start of the season in goal, while
Maya Greenquist led the team with three shots and
Banner Williams had two shots as well.
Missouri Western (2-2-2) had goals scored by
Elisabeth Pujado and all four shots were on goal to lead all players. Kaili Campbell had five shots to lead all players and two were on goal as well. Keeley Kroonenberg had three saves in goal for the Griffons today.
In the first half the Lions held the advantage in shots (8-5) and corner kicks (5-1) over the Griffons and forced two saves from Greenquist on a long range effort in the 31
st minute and Aisley Steven's headed effort in the 36
th minute.
The second saw two goals in quick succession by the Griffons for the 2-0 final score.
Banner Williams in the 62
nd had a long range effort that required Kroonenberg into action.
Up next for the Lions will be Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western at home next weekend. The game against the Bearcats is scheduled for Friday at 6:00pm and will be the last non-conference game of the season for the two. The rematch against the Griffons will be on Sunday with kickoff set for 2:00pm in the first conference game of the season for both teams.
