Stevenson Homers In 3-2 Loss At No. 4 UCM

Joplin, Mo – The Missouri Southern baseball team got a home run from Tommy Stevenson and an RBI from Matt Miller, but the Lions fell 3-2 today at No. 4 Central Missouri in a low-scoring affair.

Stevenson led the Lions (23-14, 13-9 MIAA) with a 2-for-4 effort, including the home run, while Miller was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nate Mieszkowski had a hit, while Clay Milas scored a run.

Logan VanWey started and had a solid start, going seven and a third and allowing just two earned runs, while striking out six to take the hard-luck loss. Laif Hultine threw two thirds of an inning.

The Mules (28-4, 21-1 MIAA) had a pair of hits from three players each.

Southern got on the board first as Stevenson took the first pitch he saw in the fourth over the left field fence to give the Lions a 1-0 lead after four.

Central went ahead in the sixth off a homer from Brennon vanBreusegan before Miller's single in the right to score Milas to tie it up at two. The Mules then got the go-ahead run in the seventh.

The two teams will finish off the series tomorrow afternoon with a 1 pm first-pitch from Crane Stadium.
