Warrensburg, Mo. – The Missouri Southern baseball team got four runs in the first, but the Lions had a hard time shutting down the offensive attack from fourth-ranked Central Missouri as Southern fell 21-6 in game one of the series today.
The Lions (23-13, 13-8 MIAA) picked up a grand slam in the first from
Jordan Fitzpatrick and another homer from
Cole Robinson in the game.
Nate Mieszkowski and Robinson had a pair of hits and an RBI each, while
Tommy Stevenson had a double.
Case Tucker,
Henry Kusiak and
Treghan Parker scored a run each.
Jacob Davis started and went three innings, while
Scott Duensing,
Jeremiah Kennedy and
Alex Baker threw in relief.
Central Missouri (27-4, 20-1 MIAA) was led by Brennan vanBruesegen with five hits and four RBIs.
Things started great for the Green and Gold as the Lions had their first four batters reach and score. Mieszkowski and Tucker singled to start the game and Kusiak was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Fitzpatrick then sent the second pitch he saw over the left-field wall to give the Lions a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom half of the inning.
Central, however, scored three in the bottom half of the inning and scored in every inning of the game.
The Lions picked up a homer from Robinson in the fourth and a sacrifice fly from Mieszkowski to score Parker in the sixth.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a first pitch of 1 pm from Crane Stadium.
