Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern baseball team scored seven runs in the first and hit four home runs as the Lions took out Missouri S&T 16-7 tonight at Warren Turner Field.
Southern (23-12) got homers from
Nate Mieszkowski,
Treghan Parker,
Cole Robinson and
Chayton Beck in the game. Beck's long ball was his first collegiate dinger.
Treghan Parker went 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored, while
Jordan Fitzpatrick was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Henry Kusiak had three hits, a run and two RBIs, while Robinson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three RBIs.
Clay Milas drove in three and scored once, while Beck went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and an RBI.
Tommy Stevenson scored twice, while
Case Tucker had an RBI and a run scored.
Cole Gayman started and went two and two thirds of an inning with a strikeout.
Chase Beiter threw four and a third in relief, striking out five to pick up the win to move to 2-1 on the year.
Ryan Paschal,
Steen Lane and
Jeremiah Kennedy threw in relief, as well.
Missouri S&T (14-12) had three hits each from Chase Burgess and Aaron Berkhoff.
The Lions scored seven runs in the first inning, while batting around. Kusiak and Milas had two-RBI doubles, while Beck drove in a pair and Fitzpatrick picked up the other RBI.
The Miners scored two in the top of the second, but the Lions answered back with four more runs to make it 11-2 after two. Parker had a two-RBI double and Milas added a sacrifice fly, before Tucker drove in a run.
The Miners added three in the third, before the home run parade for the Lions began.
Beck homered in the fourth before Parker and Robinson had back-to-back jacks on the fifth. Mieskowski added a home run in the sixth.
The Lions will be in action this weekend as Southern travels to Central Missouri for a three-game set beginning on Friday. Those game times have been moved up on Friday and Saturday in anticipation of colder weather. Friday's game will begin at 3 pm, while Saturday and Sunday will start at 1 pm each day.
