Lions Complete Series-Sweep With 7-0 Win Over FHSU

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team completed the series-sweep over visiting Fort Hays State as the Lions took out the Tigers 7-0 today in the series finale at Warren Turner Field.

Southern (22-12, 13-7 MIAA) didn't allow a single run to the Tigers (3-29, 2-18 MIAA) this weekend. Cole Woods started for the Green and Gold today and he, along with six other pitchers, combined to shutout the Tigers. Woods went five innings, striking out five, while Ryan Paschal, Cale McCallister, Scott Duensing, Chase Beiter, Steen Lane and Jeremiah Kennedy threw in relief.

Treghan Parker went 2-for-4 in the game with three RBIs and a run scored, while Case Tucker was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Henry Kusiak had an RBI and three runs scored, while Tommy Stevenson drove in a pair and scored twice. Cole Robinson had an RBI, while Nate Mieszkowski had a hit and an RBI.

Southern scored five in the first as the first four batters reached. Mieszkowski doubled to start the game and Tucker singled behind him. Kusiak was then hit by a pitch, before Stevenson singled through the right side to score two. After Stevenson stole second, Parker had a three-run homer to right center to make it 5-0 after one.

The Lions added a run in the second on a homer from Kusiak and then scored another in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Robinson to score Kusiak.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday evening as Southern plays host to Missouri S&T. First pitch from Warren Turner Field is set for 5 pm.
