Tahlequah, Okla. – The Missouri Southern baseball team got three home runs, but the Lions fell 13-6 today in game two of the MIAA series at Northeastern State.
Southern (25-19, 15-14, MIAA) got home runs
Chayton Beck,
Tyler Ferguson and
Drew Davis in the game. Ferguson drove in a pair and scored twice, while Beck and Davis scored two times each. Six Lions had a hit each.
Logan VanWey started and went six innings, striking out 11 and walking just two, but settled for a no-decision.
Cole Gayman picked up the loss in relief, as
Scott Duensing,
Steen Lane,
Cale McCallister,
Alex Baker and
Ryan Paschal threw, as well.
The RiverHawks (31-13, 19-10 MIAA) had five home runs on the day as the NSU bats were hot again.
NSU went on top with a run in the second, before the Lions got a home run from Beck and Davis in the third to lead 2-1 heading to the bottom half of the inning.
The RiverHawks picked up a pair in the bottom half of the inning to lead 4-2 after three.
Southern scored three runs in the top of the seventh to lead 5-4. Ferguson hit a two-run blast to start the scoring and Davis scored an unearned run to put the Lions up.
NSU, however, scored six in the seventh and three in the eighth and despite an RBI from
Henry Kusiak late, the Lions couldn't complete the comeback.
The two teams will play the series finale tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
