Wichita, Kan. – The Missouri Southern baseball team scored eight runs over the first two innings and the Lions took out Newman 12-2 today in game two of the series.
Southern (25-16, 15-11 MIAA) got a solid start from
Logan VanWey who went six innings, allowing just one run, while striking out six.
Jeremiah Kennedy,
Scott Duensing and
Alex Baker threw an inning each in relief.
Treghan Parker had four RBIs, going 2-for-4 in the game with a home run.
Matt Miller had a pair of doubles, while
Nate Mieszkowski and
Drew Davis had three hits and a pair of runs scored each.
Ryan Doran had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while
Chayton Beck drove in a pair and
Jordan Fitzpatrick had two runs and an RBI.
Henry Kusiak had a run and an RBI.
Newman (21-18m 11-15 MIAA) got a pair of hits and an RBI from Tyler Push.
The Lions started the scoring with three runs in the first. Doran singled to left to score Mieszkowski, while Parker walked with the bases loaded to score Kusiak. Beck then reached on a fielder's choice scoring Doran.
Newman got a run in the bottom of the first, but five more runs came across in the second for the Lions. Fitzpatrick drove in Davis, before an RBI single from Doran scored Mieszkowski. Parker then hit a three-run homer to put the Lions up 8-1 after the second.
Newman added a run in the seventh, but two more scored for the Lions in the fifth on RBIs from Beck and Davis. The Lions got an RBI from Miller in the eighth and an RBI from Kusiak in the ninth to put away the game.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon with a 1 pm first-pitch in the series finale.
