Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern baseball team trailed 6-0 at one point, but the Lions clawed back and forced extra-innings, winning 10-9 in the tenth over Washburn today at Warren Turner Field.
Southern (16-9, 7-4 MIAA) got a walk-off RBI single from
Treghan Parker as the freshman drove home
Tyler Ferguson for the game-winning run. Parker went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs a home run and two runs scored.
Matt Miller was 1-for-4 but it was a big hit as he hit his ninth homer of the season to tie the game in the tenth.
Cole Robinson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while
Henry Kusiak was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Case Tucker hit his first career home run today as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Jordan Fitzpatrick had an RBI and a run scored.
Jacob Davis started and went three and a third, while
Chase Beiter threw four and two thirds out of the pen, keeping the Ichabods at bey, limiting Washburn to just one run, while striking out six.
Scott Duensing and
Ryan Paschal threw in relief, while
Cale McCallister threw two thirds of an inning to pick up the win and move to 2-0 on the season.
Washburn (17-7, 8-3 MIAA) got three hits from Brett Ingram, while Zion Bowlin drove in three.
The Ichabods went up 6-0 after the top of the third, but the Lions got a run back in the bottom of the third on an RBI double from Kusiak to score Robinson.
Washburn added a run in the fourth, but the Lions answered back with two of their own. Parker and Tucker went back-to-back to get the Lions within four (7-3) after four.
Both teams scored a run in the fifth as the Lions got theirs after a fielding error on a bunt single from Kusiak allowed Kusiak to circle the bases.
The Southern bullpen then went to work and held Washburn scoreless until the tenth.
The Lions scored three in the eighth, the first coming on an RBI double from Fitzpatrick.
Ryan Doran drove in a run with a hit by pitch, and Kusiak walked with the bases loaded to get the Lions within a run, heading to the ninth.
In the ninth, Robinson knocked an RBI single to left to score Parker and tie the game to force extras.
Washburn scored a run in their half of the tenth, but the Lions weren't done. Miller homered to deep right center to tie the game and Ferguson walked behind him. Ferguson then stole second before Parker's walk-off single to right brought him home.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with first-pitch slated for 1 pm.
