Claremore, Okla. – The Missouri Southern baseball team fought back from a 4-2 deficit only to fall 9-7 today in extra innings at Rogers State in a mid-week MIAA game.
The Lions (15-9, 6-4 MIAA) picked up a solid day at the plate from both
Tommy Stevenson and
Ryan Doran. Stevenson went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Doran was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.
Matt Miller had a pair of hits and a run scored, while
Henry Kusiak,
Clay Milas, and
Treghan Parker had a hit each. Parker added a home run, while Kusiak had a double.
Chase Beiter started and went three and a third, while
Ryan Paschal,
Cale McCallister,
Scott Duensing and
Laif Hultine threw in relief.
RSU (11-11, 6-4 MIAA) had 3-for-3 days from both Victor Ceniceros and Prescott Horn.
The Hillcats started the scoring with a run in each of the first and second innings to go up 2-0.
Parker tied the game in the fourth with a two-run homer to right to score Miller. RSU, however, answered with two runs of their own in the inning to lead 4-2 after four.
A Milas RBI single got the Lions within a run at 4-3 after six, but an unearned run in the seventh for RSU gave the Hillcats a 5-3 lead.
Doran set the Lions up for what would have been the game-winner as he hit a bomb to right field to score
Jordan Fitzpatrick and Stevenson. Fitzpatrick then added an RBI in the top of the ninth to score
Case Tucker to give the Lions a 7-5 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.
RSU scored two runs in the ninth to tie it and Skyler Nelson hit a two-run homer in the tenth to walk off the game for the Hillcats.
Southern will be back in action this weekend when the Lions play host to Washburn. The teams will play a game on Friday, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. First-pitch Friday night is set for 5 pm, while both games on Saturday and Sunday are set to start at 1 pm.
