VanWey/Stevenson Power Lions Past Bronchos

Edmond, Okla. – The Missouri Southern baseball team got on the board early and Logan VanWey allowed just one hit as the Lions took out the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 7-0 today at Wendell Simons Field in Edmond.
 
The Lions (14-8, 5-3 MIAA) got a stellar performance on the mound from VanWey as he moved his record to 2-2 on the season, going into the seventh before he allowed a hit. He struck out 11 and walked just one in the game as he allowed just one batter past first base. Cale McCallister threw the final two innings, striking out three, including the final hitter to seal the win.
 
Tommy Stevenson had a pair of homers on the day to move his NCAA Division II leading total to 12 this season. Stevenson went 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
 
Ryan Doran had a home run and went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored, while Clay Milas was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Drew Davis had a home run, while Henry Kusiak and Tyler Ferguson had a hit each. Ferguson and Jordan Fitzpatrick had a run each.
 
Stevenson got things going for the Lions in the first with his first blast of the day, this one scoring Milas to make it 2-0 after one.
 
Doarn then homered to right to score Fitzpatrick in the third and Milas made it 5-0 after four with a sacrifice fly to score Ferguson.
 
Stevenson added a solo shot to left in the seventh and Davis had a shot to center in the eighth to cap the scoring.
 
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon with a final game at 1 pm.
