Baseball Falls At Southwestern Oklahoma

Weatherford, Okla. – The Missouri Southern baseball team suffered a season-opening loss today on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma State, falling 13-6 to the Bulldogs.
 
The Lions (0-1) picked up a pair of hits from both Henry Kusiak and Clay Milas as Nate Mieszkowski, Jordan Fitzpatrick, Tommy Stevenson, Drew Davis and Treghan Parker had a hit each. Fitzpatrick, Stevenson, Matt Miller, Parker and Davis had an RBI each. Fitzpatrick, Milas, Davis and Parker had a double each.
 
Logan VanWey started for the Lions and went three innings, striking out four. Scott Duensing threw an inning and picked up the loss, while Jeremiah Kennedy, Cole Gayman, Laif Hultine and Cale McCallister all threw in relief. Hultine had three strikeouts.
 
The Bulldogs (1-0) had three hits each from Miguel Soto and Marc Gonzales.
 
SWOSU scored four in the first, but the Lions answered back with three of their own. Davis doubled home Kusiak for the first run, while Miller reached on a fielder's choice to score Milas. Parker then doubled down the right field line to score Davis to cut the lead to one.
 
The Bulldogs scored a run in the third to lead 5-3, but the Lions answered back with three runs in the fifth to go up 6-5. Fitzpatrick doubled home Tyler Ferguson, while Stevenson singled home Fitzpatrick to tie the score. Milas then doubled to left to drive home Stevenson.
 
Southwestern went ahead for good in the bottom half of the fifth as they scored eight runs to break the game open.
 
The Lions will be back at home this Sunday when Southern opens up the home slate by playing host to Winona State for a three-game set.
