Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer programs is set to finish the regular season with a road trip to Northwest Missouri before hosting #5 Central Missouri in the regular season finale.
The Lions (2-12-1, 2-6-1 MIAA) will be in Marvyille October 21
st to play Northwest Missouri at Bearcat Pitch with kickoff set for 3:00pm. Following the trip up north the Lions will be back home to play #5 Central Missouri at Hal Bodon Field on October 23
rd with kickoff set for 2:00pm, this game will also serve as the Pink Game where players will be wearing pink in a show of support to Hope 4 You a non-profit which helps area women get mammograms.
Individually the Lions are led by
Ashley Koepp with three goals and an assist this season while having 27 shots and nine shots on goal to go with two game winning goals.
Kylie Stonestreet and
Ella Durocher each have two goals this season with Stonestreet also picking up an assist.
Aisley Stevens,
Jori Hays and
Maya Greenquist lead the team with two assists each with Stevens and Greenquist also scoring once this season. This season six Lions have double digit shot totals in Koepp (27),
Mackenzie Scholtz (20), Stevens (25),
Mia Barkyoumb (13), Hays (13), Greenquist and
Banner Williams (10). The top three with shots on goal are Stevens with 10, Koepp at nine and Hays with eight this season. In goal
Lilly Doneghue has played in 10 games for 855 minutes with 52 saves while allowing 21 goals for a 2.21 GAA and has a 1-7-1 record with one shutout.
Riley Laver has appeared in six games for 495 minutes with 32 saves while allowing 16 goals for a 2.91 GAA and has a 1-5-0 record with one shutout.
Northwest Missouri (10-4-2, 6-3-0 MIAA) has clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament already and currently is fourth in the standings heading into this weekend. The Bearcats own a five-game winning streak the longest currently in the MIAA and in the latest regional poll by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) is listed sixth. Individually the Bearcats are led by Kaylie Rock with six goals and 10 assists for 22 points while having 44 shots and 23 shots on goal. Sophie Cissell (4), Teagan Blackburn (3), Adell Gore (3), Kaitlyn Case (3) and Hannah Stirling (3) are the other goal scoreres with more than one this season. Blackburn (4), Elaina Shromoff (3) and Yesenia Arnau (2) are also the other Bearcats to have more than one assist this season. In goal Lilly Ellis should see action with 14 starts for 1260 minutes with 45 saves while allowing 7 goals for a 0.50 GAA and has a 8-4-2 record with 10 shutouts.
Central Missouri (13-1-2, 7-1-1 MIAA) has cliched a spot in the MIAA Tournament and currently is first in the standings heading into the weekend. The Jennies are three points clear of second and have won two of their last three games. In the latest regional poll by the USC, Central Missouri is listed number one with six MIAA schools listed in the top-10. Individually the Jennies are led by Julia Kristensen with nine goals and six assists for 24 points with 37 shots and 16 shots on goal. Madilyn Hamline (8), Caroline Cole (7), Lindsay Edmond (3), Ashleigh Martin (2), Alexis Christopherson (2), Calynn Harbert (2) and Anna Lack (2) are the other Jennies to score more than once this season. The top assisters are Kristensen (6), Cole (5), Hamline (4), (Martin (3) and Peyton Wagoner with two this season. Leading the shot and shots on goal charts are Hamline (51 and 26) with Cole (43 and 22) in second. In goal the Jennies will have Sydney Beck with 16 starts for 1357:38 minutes with 43 saves while allowing 14 goals for a 0.93 GAA and has a 13-1-2 record with four shutouts.
Southern is looking to get into the MIAA Tournament for the first time since the 2021 spring season, and after last week the Lions are in tenth tied with Rogers State on points at seven. In seventh Missouri Western has 11 points and Northeastern State is currently eight at 10 points with both teams picking up ties in their last games.
Following the conclusion of the Sunday slate around the MIAA the standings will be solidified with the top eight teams making the MIAA Tournament where the top four teams will host.
