Pujado Scores, Lions Fall 4-1

Maryville, Mo. – Elisabeth Pujado picked up her first goal of the season, but the Missouri Southern soccer program fell 4-1 to Northwest Missouri on the road to conclude non-conference play.
 
The Lions (1-4-2, 0-0-0 MIAA) worked back-to-back corners late in the first half into a goal to tie it up 1-1. Maya Greenquist delivered the ball inside where Pujado was placed for an easy header into the goal. 
 
Northwest Missouri (4-3, 0-0 MIAA) got the opening goal in the first ten minutes after both teams created numerous attacking opportunities. The Bearcats took a 2-1 lead with under 15 seconds left in the first half to steal the momentum. In the second half Northwest Missouri added another goal in the 57th minute and with seven seconds remaining in the game making the final tally 4-1.
 
Pujado led the Lions with three shots, and Maya Greenquist collected her second assist of the season with both coming from corner kicks. Other Lions that got off a shot were Jori Hays, Aisley Stevens, Lariah Boone and Lily Spikereit. Each shot for the Lions today was on goal (7-7). In goal Laney Graham played the first half and came away with seven saves, while Lilly Doneghue came in and collected three saves in the second half.
 
For the Bearcats, Kaylie Rock had a goal and an assist to go with a game-high seven shots with five being on goal. The other goal scorers for Northwest Missouri were Alex Mausbach, Teagan Blackburn and Linsi Mashburn. In goal Grace Goetsch played the first half coming away with three saves while Ashley Williams played the second half 
 
Up next for the Lions will be Missouri Western to begin MIAA action on Sunday. Kickoff from Spratt Stadium will be at 1:00 pm.
