Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team took Newman to extra points in the opening set, but the Lions eventually fell in straight sets tonight to the Jets. Individual set scores were 24-26, 16-25 and 19-25.
The Lions (3-6, 0-1 MIAA) were led by Mader who dished out 29 assists and added 11 digs.
CC Pollard had a team-high nine kills, while
Armyni Perales,
Amelia Neels and
Bonnie Hegarty had six kills each.
Brooklynn McCain had 17 digs, while
Kylah Carter and
Kierson Maydew had ten digs each.
Newman (5-2, 1-0 MIAA) was led by Riley Daugherty who had 12 kills and 13 digs.
Set one saw four tied scores and two lead changes, but the Jets tied the set at 22 and eventually won 26-24. Set two was all Newman, while the final set, despite the score, featured eight tied scores and three lead changes.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when Southern plays host to Pittsburg State. First-serve from the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is set for 3 pm.
