Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team had four different players with double-digit kills, but the Lions fell in four sets to Pittsburg State. Individual set scores were 25-17, 23-25, 15-25, and 23-25.

Southern (3-7, 0-2 MIAA) got 12 kills each from Armyni Perales and Bonnie Hegarty, while CC Pollard and Amelia Neels had 11 kills each. Sophie Mader dished out 42 assists and added ten digs, while Brooklynn McCain had 12 digs of her own. Perales hit .458, while Hegarty hit .381 and Neels hit .368. The Lions hit .338 as a team.

PSU (8-2, 2-0 MIAA) had three record double-digit kills, led by 16 each from Hope White and Meg Auten.

Set one had seven tied scores and three lead changes with the majority happening in the first ten points. The Lions tied the set at eight and led 11-8 forcing a PSU timeout. The Southern lead was 19-14 forcing another Gorilla timeout and the Lions went on to take the opener 25-17.

Set two saw six tied scores, but no lead changes as the Gorillas got even to tie the match at one. PSU led from start to finish in set three to take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

The Gorillas got out to an 11-6 lead midway through the fourth set, forcing a Southern timeout. The Lions got within five (15-10) to force a PSU timeout, but after the Gorillas took a 20-14 lead, the Lions were forced to call another timeout. Southern, however, went on a 6-2 run to get within two (22-20) and force a PSU timeout and the Lions tied the set at 23. Pitt scored the final two points to take the match.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday night when Southern heads to Springfield to take on Drury. First-serve from the O'Reilly Family Events Center is set for 6 pm.
