Greenquist Fires Lions Ahead of Jets

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern soccer program picked up its first win of the season as Maya Greenquist slotted home the game-winner inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium this afternoon against Newman.

Southern (1-0) had most of the possession throughout the game using it to put up seven shots with three on goal.

The Lions did most their damage in the second half pressing up the field more to get a quick counter chance. Southern scored off a throw in that wasn't dealt with before landing at Greenquist's feet around the edge of the eighteen-yard box before shooting home the left footed shot into the far side netting putting the Lions up in the 58th minute.

Newman (0-1) responded with three shots on goal in the final thirty minutes of play but couldn't muster up a goal.

Riley Laver picked up the win going the distance between the posts finishing with five saves. Jori Hays and Greenquist got off two shots each for Southern as well.

Next up for the Lions is Washburn in Topeka, Kan with kick-off scheduled for 4pm.
