Lacy Stokes Scores 19 Against Wichita State

Box Score Wichita, Kan. – The Missouri Southern women's basketball program fell tonight 89-61 in exhibition action against Division I Wichita State inside Charles Koch Arena.

The Lions were led by freshman Lacy Stokes with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Cameron Call chipped in with 13 points connecting on two threes and going 5-7 from the free throw line. Layne Skiles battled foul trouble all game but ended with 11 points going 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from deep. Amaya Johns pitched in with nine points and rebounds.
 
Wichita State was led Jane Asinde with 17 points, eight rebounds. Mariah McCully and Seraphine Bastin both had 15 points with Bastin also having eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Asia Strong finished with nine points and 10 rebounds as well.
 
In the first quarter Missouri Southern jumped out to a 5-2 early led following an Johns jumper the first possession and a Skiles three that was assisted by Brooke Stauffer in the second possession. Wichita State went on a 10-0 run to claim the lead before the Lions got on to board again from a Johns jumper with 4:49 remaining to make it 12-7.
 
The Lions would get within six (19-13) with a less than three minutes to go in the first quarter thanks to a Skiles three from a Lacy Stokes feed. 
 
In the second quarter Kaitlin Hunnicutt connected on a three with 5:02 remaining to cut the Shocker lead down to 11 (36-25). Call would score the last five points for the Lions scoring twice from free throws and hitting a three from a L. Stokes feed with seven seconds remaining to put the Lions into the half down 52-32.
 
Missouri Southern went on a 5-0 run to begin the third quarter and cut the Schockers' lead to 18 (55-37) with 6:28 remaining in the quarter. 
 
The fourth quarter saw the Lions win the quarter 21-18 and had Lacy Stokes finish with 10 points in the quarter. A connection that was rekindled from high school days at Mt. Vernon, Cameron Call knocked down a three from a Lacy Stokes assist with 9:24 remaining to trim it to 73-43.
 
Lacy would connect on two threes in the quarter being assisted by Hunnicutt and Stauffer before making four free throws from the free throw line in the last two minutes of the game.
 
The Lions will begin the regular season against Henderson State on November 12th in the GAC/MIAA Challenge that will be hosted this season at Missouri Southern with tip-off for the Lions being at 7:30 PM from the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The opening game of the GAC/MIAA Challenge will feature Emporia State against Harding with tip-off form Leggett & Platt Athletic Center at 3:00 PM.
