Soccer Travels To Central Oklahoma, Newman

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer program hits the road to face off against receiving votes Central Oklahoma and Newman this weekend.
 
The Lions (2-6-2, 1-2-0 MIAA) are led by Maya Greenquist with two goals and three assists. Ella Durocher has two goals as well and the Lions have eight others that have scored a goal. Mackenzie Scholtz has provided two assists this season and Elisabeth Pujado, Aisley Stevens, Lainey Waldron, Banner Williams and Braylee Childers have an assist as well. Jori Hays leads the team with 22 shots and 15 shots on goal with most coming from well outside the box this season. Riley Laver has appeared in eight games in goal and has 42 saves, a 0.808 save percentage, two shutouts and a 1.29 GAA.
 
The Lions will kick off from the Tom Thompson Field against Central Oklahoma Friday, at 7:00 pm and Sunday against Newman from Wilkins Field at 1:00 pm. Both game will feature a stream and have live stats associated with them, you can find them at https://mssulions.com/coverage.
 
Central Oklahoma (7-2-1, 3-0-0 MIAA) is currently on a six-game unbeaten streak going 5-0-1. This past week against Fort Hays State they picked up a 2-1 win with each goal being scored in the first half and against Nebraska-Kearney won 3-0 with goals in both half's. Monika McGee leads the Bronchos with seven goals, 26 shots, and 16 shots on goal. Madison Linavong and Emily Tincher have three assists each to lead the team and Kassidy Collins has added five goals and two assists as well. Kaitlyn Asher has appeared in ten games in goal picking up 23 saves, has a GAA of 1.13, been involved in three shutouts and a 0.719 save percentage. A win in Edmond would be the Lions first ever win on the road against the Bronchos and would snap a four-game losing streak overall.
 
Newman (0-7-1, 0-3-0 MIAA) is coming off a 2-1 loss to Nebraska-Kearney and a 2-0 loss against Fort Hays State last week. The Jets have had five different goal scorers this season and Elle Johnson has the lone assist of the season. Ashley Talley has 13 shots while tied with Makenzie Shay and Makenna Schmall for the team-high with seven shots on goal. Jackie Lari has 41 saves in eight games, has a 0.695 save percentage and a GAA of 2.15. A win in Wichita will be the Lions second win on the road and the third straight win over the Jets.

Following this weekend of games the Lions will be at home to have Senior Night against Nebraska-Kearney on the 15th and against Fort Hays State it will be the Cancer Awareness Game on the 17th from Hal Bodon Field.
