Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer program will host Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State this weekend as the battle for qualifying for the MIAA postseason tournament heats up.
Missouri Southern will kick off from Hal Bodon Field for Senior Night against Nebraska-Kearney Friday, at 6:00 pm and on Sunday, for the Cancer Awareness Game the Lions will host Fort Hays State with kickoff at 2:00 pm from Hal Bodon Field. The Lions (2-8-2, 1-4-0 MIAA) are coming off a 2-0 loss to a receiving votes Central Oklahoma and a 1-0 loss to Newman on the road last week. Missouri Southern is led by
Maya Greenquist with two goals and three assists.
Ella Durocher has two goals as well and the Lions have eight others that have scored a goal.
Mackenzie Scholtz has provided two assists this season and
Elisabeth Pujado,
Aisley Stevens,
Lainey Waldron,
Banner Williams and
Braylee Childers have an assist as well.
Jori Hays leads the team with 24 shots and 17 shots on goal with most coming from well outside the box this season.
Riley Laver has appeared in eight games in goal and has 42 saves, a 0.808 save percentage, two shutouts and a 1.29 GAA.
Nebraska-Kearney (2-10, 1-4 MIAA) is coming off a 2-1 loss against Northwest Missouri in overtime and a 1-0 loss to Missouri western in Kearney last week. The Lopers have scored six goals this season and have six assists with Cammie Davis, Andelina Iocca and Perla Navarro have one each. Navarro leads the team in shots and shots on goal with 17 and 10. In goal Nebraska-Kearney has used Rainna Daharsh and Emery Mounce in six games each so far. Daharsh owns a 2.51 GAA, 0.725 save percentage and has collected 37 saves. Mounce has a 1.91 GAA, a 0.788 save percentage and has 41 saves on the season.
Fort Hays State (4-5-3, 1-4-0 MIAA) is coming off two 1-0 losses to Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri in overtime in Hays last week. Amanda Rapaduski and Jordan Thompson lead the Tigers with three goals scored, while Alex Hutton and Carly Walker have two goals as well this season. Emily Hutchings leads the team with four assists while Reilly Madden and Cailey Perkins have chipped in with two assists as well. Perkins leads the Tigers in shots while Rapaduski leads in shots on goal. Deonna Wellbrock has played in eleven games at goalie for the Tigers owning a 0.68 GAA, a 0.869 save percentage, four shutouts and has collected 53 saves.
The MIAA regular season has three weeks remaining before taking a week break to begin the MIAA postseason tournament. Entering this week, the Lions have the same MIAA record as Rogers State, Fort Hays State, Nebraska-Kearney and Newman and are tied on points for eighth in the standings. Only the top eight teams advance to the postseason tournament in women's soccer.
