Pittsburg, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team got a double-double from
Sophie Mader, but the Lions fell in three sets at Pittsburg State tonight. Individual set scores were 14-25, 13-25, and 19-25.
Mader paced the Lions (3-15, 0-8 MIAA) with her double-double as she posted 17 assists and 11 digs on the evening.
Armyni Perales had seven kills, while
Kierson Maydew added four of her own.
PSU (11-6, 5-4 MIAA) was led by 13 kills from Meg Auten.
The Gorillas jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opening set, but the Lions stormed back and tied the set at eight points each early on. PSU, however, went on an 8-1 run to open up a 16-9 lead in the opening frame and didn't look back.
After the Gorillas took a two-set lead, the Lions came out in the third set and traded points with PSU and took an 11-10 lead midway through on a kill from
Kylah Carter. The Gorillas led 20-15 late and the Lions got within three (22-19) before PSU scored the final two points to take the match.
Southern will be back on the road this weekend as the Lions travel to Fort Hays State on Friday and Nebraska-Keraney on Saturday.
