Lions Fall 3-0 At FHSU

Hays, Kan. – The Missouri Southern volleyball team got a career night from Emily-Kate Lonergan, but the Lions fell three sets to none in MIAA action at Fort Hays State. Individual set scores were 17-25, 16-25 and 15-25.

Southern (3-16, 0-9 MIAA) was led by Armyni Perales and Sophie Mader as Mader had 16 assists and nine digs, while Perales had nine kills and eight digs of her own. Brooklynn McCain had 10 digs, while Amelia Neels had a pair of blocks. Lonergan had eight digs and five kills on the night. The five kills for Lonergan is a career-high.

FHSU (9-10, 3-7 MIAA) was led by Morgan Christiansen with 12 kills.

The opening set saw four ties and two lead changes as the Lions led 10-9 midway through. The Tigers, however scored five-straight and forced a Lions' timeout. The lead for FHSU moved to six (19-13) as the Tigers took the opening set.

Set two saw the Tigers open up an 8-2 lead to open the frame, but the Lions got within four (14-10) after an ace from Neels. That would be as close as Southern got, however.

The final set saw three ties all within the first ten points, but a 8-2 run from the Tigers pushed the score to 12-6 and forced a Southern timeout. Fort Hays State ran the lead to nine (20-11) and didn't look back.

Southern will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as the Lions travel to No. 15 Nebraska-Kearney for a 3 pm start.
