Lions Storm Back In 11-7 Win At No. 23 Central Missouri

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team trailed 6-0 after three innings, but scored nine unanswered runs en route to an 11-7 win at No. 23 Central Missouri this afternoon.

The Lions (24-22, 12-20 MIAA) got home runs from Cory Canterbury, Mike Million and Alec Alvarez as Million and Alvarez had doubles, too. Million drove in four runs and scored four times as he went 4-for-5 in the game. Alvarez drove in three and scored twice, while Canterbury scored three times and had two RBIs. Joe Kinder had an RBI. Denver Coffee scored twice, while Johnny Balsamo and Garan Stevens had two hits each.

Jared Flores started and went three and a third, allowing just two earned runs as errors plagued the Lions early. River Wright threw an inning of relief, while Bradly Hershey picked up the win, going two and two thirds of an inning in relief. Joey Reeves threw a third of an inning and Corey Cowan got a save, going an inning and two thirds.

The Mules (31-13, 22-10 MIAA) got three RBIs and two runs scored from John Fairchild.

After Central went up 6-0 in the third, the Lions answered back quick. Alvarez hit a two-run home run in the fourth, scoring Million, while Canterbury started the scoring in the sixth with a two-run bomb of his own. Kinder drove home Million with a sacrifice fly to get the Lions within one (6-5) in the sixth.

Million doubled down the left field line to score Canterbury and Coffee in the seventh to put the Lions on top 7-6 and then Alvarez doubled behind him, scoring Million to make the score 8-6. Alvarez scored on a wild pitch to put the Lions up 9-6 in the seventh.

Central added a home run in the seventh to get within two, before Million added a two-run homer in the eighth to put the game away.

The two teams will finish up the series tomorrow afternoon with a 1 pm first pitch.
