Pittsburg, Kan. – The Missouri Southern Lions were held to just 39.6 percent shooting as seventh ranked Pittsburg State came away with a 70-48 win Tuesday evening inside John Lance Arena.

The Lions (12-15, 7-11 MIAA) had three chances to get out ahead of the seventh ranked Gorillas (24-3, 16-2 MIAA) but missed two shots and turned the ball over once before Pittsburg State scored on a Mikaela Burgess jumper for the 2-0 lead. That was all it took as PSU never gave up the lead in route to a 70-48 win.

Pittsburg State used a 16-4 run to close out the first half for a 37-16 lead. The Gorillas shot 50 percent (13-for-26) from the field while Southern shot 26.1 percent (6-for-23). The Lions were also shut out from three-point range going 0-for-5 while Pittsburg State shot 4-for-9.

The Gorillas used a pair of 6-2 runs in the third quarter to open a 29-point lead, 58-27.

Maydew with a three at the 6:49 mark of the fourth kept Southern's made three-point streak alive at 493 games. The last time the Lions did not make a shot from downtown was back on November 20, 1999 in a 68-53 loss to Southern Arkansas.

Sophomore
Desirea Buerge led the Lions with nine points while sophomore
Chelsey Henry and junior
Julianna Wadsworth each added eight.

Southern will close out their regular season home schedule on Thursday evening with a 5:30 p.m. contest against 21st ranked Central Missouri.
