Tahlequah, Okla. -- Cody Hutchinson threw a complete-game for the win and the Missouri Southern baseball team defeated Northeastern State 4-1 today at Rousey Field.
With the win, Southern (32-17, 22-16 MIAA) secures the fifth seed in the MIAA Tournament next weekend and will either play Emporia State or Missouri Western at 7:30 pm on day one of the tournament.
Hutchinson went all nine, striking out five and walking none, while allowing just five hits and one run to move his record to 8-5 on the season.
Trever Burkdoll went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Tyler Sutherland was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while
Jacob Bryant,
Brett Graham and
Matt Smith had two hits each. Smith and
Danny Biggs drove in a run each, while Bryant,
Jesse Rall, and Graham scored a run each.
Northeastern State (26-21, 20-17 MIAA) had two hits each from Shane Bridges and Eric Kirkpatrick.
NSU got a run in the first, but the Lions answered back with two of their own in the second on RBIs from Smith and Biggs.
The Lions added another run in the fifth on an RBI from Sutherland and he knocked in another run in the seventh, this time scoring Burkdoll.
Both teams will finish off the regular season tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 2 pm.
