Softball Drops Pair to Northwest Missouri

Maryville, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions Softball Team (22-29, 9-13 MIAA) dropped a pair of MIAA games 9-91, and 8-0, Saturday afternoon to Northwest Missouri State (33-9, 17-5 MIAA) at Bearcat Field.

Game One
The Lions' lone run came in the top of the third when senior Alana Hester hit a RBI single to center field to score sophomore Myranda Stewart who reached on a lead off walk. The other Southern hit came in the same inning as junior Sarah Morrison singled down the right field line to move Stewart into scoring position.

Senior Sarah Williams (0-3) got the start inside the circle for the Lions and went two innings allowing seven runs, five earned, on five hits with a strike out. Freshman Taurean Guzman pitched the final two innings for the Lions allowing two runs, both earned, on two hits with two strike outs.

Game Two
The Lions were limited to two hits in the final game of the weekend road trip with Guzman and freshman Ashley Caldarella picking up the hits in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. Senior Ashley Lutz (13-14) got the start for the Lions allowing eight runs, six earned, on 12 hits with a strike out.

Up Next
Southern will take the next week off before traveling to Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State the following weekend to finish out the regular season. The Lions are currently tied for 8th in the MIAA standings with Southwest Baptist at 9-13. The top eight make the MIAA Post-Season Tournament held this year in Oklahoma City at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
