Edmond, Okla. - The Missouri Southern Lions dropped a pair of run rule games to Central Oklahoma Friday afternoon at Broncho Field.
Game One
Central Oklahoma jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings that included a three run home run from Morgan Heard. Another two runs in the third chased the Missouri Southern (22-31, 9-15 MIAA) starter, senior
Ashley Lutz, and the Bronchos scored an additional two more runs off freshman reliever
Taurean Guzman. The Lions' lone run of the opening game came in the fourth on a RBI single by senior
Sarah Williams that scored freshman
Ashley Caldarella, who reached on a single to start the fourth. UCO scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 15-1 final.
Lutz went two and a third innings allowing eight runs, seven earned, on three hits with six walks and two strike outs, while Guzman went one and two-thirds allowing seven runs, all earned, on six hits with a walk. Southern collected five hits off UCO pitching with freshman
Kylie Wesbrooks gathering a pair of singles to go along with Williams' RBI single, while senior
Alana Hester and freshman
Ashley Caldarella also singled.
Game Two
In the night cap the Lions struck first in the top of the third when Williams stroked a two run double that scored sophomore
Abi Corbett and Guzman to make it 2-0 Southern. Central Oklahoma came back in the bottom of the frame and plated six runs on four hits and the Bronchos were aided by a Missouri Southern error. Another two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth gave UCO the second run rule victory of the day.
Sophomore
Kali' Hodson threw the four and a third innings for Southern allowing the 10 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits with three walks. The Lions managed six hits in the night cap with Williams going 2-for-3 and Hester, Guzman, sophomore
