No. 13 Lions Hit Four Homers In 12-2 Win Over Southwest Baptist

Joplin, Mo. -- The 13th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team hit four home runs and Matt Harvey went six and a third strong innings as the Lions took out visiting Southwest Baptist 12-2 today in seven innings at Warren Turner Field. 

The Lions (21-8, 11-8 MIAA) were led by Richie Gorski and Tyler Sutherland as both had three RBIs on the day. Gorski went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two triples and a double, while Sutherland was 2-for-4 with a home run and a run scored. Jacob Bryant went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Jesse Rall was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brett Graham had a home run and two hits, with two runs scored and an RBI, while Matt Smith had a home run, as well, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Hayden Steele hit his fourth homer of the season as he went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Chris Hoffman had a hit and an RBI. 

Harvey went six and a third, striking out seven and walking just two, while he allowed just one earned run and moved his record to 1-0 on the season. Sean Goostree picked up the final two outs in the seventh. 

The Lions scored two runs in each of the first two innings. Gorski had an RBI triple and Sutherland drove him in with a double of his own in the first. In the second, Bryant had a sacrifice fly and Gorski added an RBI double. Smith homered in the third to make the score 5-1 and the Lions broke it open in the fourth with four runs. Gorski added his second RBI double, and Rall singled him home. Sutherland added a two-run bomb to finish up the scoring in the inning. 

Southern picked up a run in the sixth on an RBI double from Hoffman and the Lions finished off the game with solo home runs from both Graham and Steele in the seventh. 

The Lions will finish up the series tomorrow afternoon with a single, nine-inning game against the Bearcats. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
